  Introduction

Taplejung is situated in the north- eastern part of Nepal covering an area of 3646 sq. km. Taplejung is bordered by Terhathum district in the west, the Tibet Autonomous Region of China in the North and Indian state of Sikkim and Panchthar district in the east. Located between 270 15' - 270 56' North latitude and 870 32' - 880 15' E longitude, Taplejung extends over the physiographic region of Middle mountains and High Himalaya. The altitude of Taplejung varies from 750 m asl. to 8,586 m asl. Altogether, Taplejung contains 11 mountain peaks over 7,000 m in addition to numerous glaciers, deep gorges, undisturbed forests and secluded valleys.
